Arctic Nodding Bladder-campion
Svalbard archipelago
The purple striped bladder hangs down like a Japanese lantern, and appears to be the whole flower.  The small purple leaves, tucked inside the bladder are almost too short to be seen.  A very unmistakable unflowerlike flower, about 4 inches tall.

Kittiwake

These ocean-going gulls makes their spring nests of seaweed, mud, and grasses and are compacted and cantilevered on narrow ledges of very steep seacliffs. The newborn chicks are programmed to sit very still until their first flight at about six weeks.  They winter far out at sea.

Ausfonna Glacier

Glacier has a 100 foot high ice front and protrudes to the coast for 125 miles.  In places it is more than 1800 feet thick. Melt water breaks through the glacier and cascades down the front of the glacier as powerful water falls.
